I have an 03 xcsp 500 that is my wifes sled, ocassionally i will take it out locally and play around with a few of my buddies at a local farm that has a n old runway in the middle of it that alot of people come to ,to run there sleds. My wifes sled being a 500 outruns 3 out of four of my friends older 600 tripples.I have 1 friend that allways gets me by a sled or 2.Seeing its my wifes sled and i have a new sled,i don't take it out often just when my buddies rile me up.It is bone stock. What can i do to it without spending much money to give it a sled or 2 advantage over stock.Just want to surprise my friend that always gets me the next time i take it out. Thanks

i hope so.I had spinal surgery last winter and let a friend of mine ride it after a local storm and the next day a few guys he rode with called me wondering what the hell i did to the sled cause it was smoking my buddies 600 tripple and another guys 600 tripple, they were 95 and a 1996.they couldn't believe it was stock,so i have another friend that started talking smack recently and he only beat the sled by 1 or 2 lengths so have to try something to surprise him this winter. It is amazingly fast for a stock 500

Re: Willie,i have a question
I think every one forgets HOW fast those 500 valved motors heck they were 105 HP and nice long legs, with a little exhaust valve work keeping it closed a bit longer you could get great MPGs and top end to boot I wish they would come back with it in the new body. Jx

Be carefull what you ask for....know guys here that had their 500 ves clutch kit and didn't like it one bit. Its not something many of us want to go trail riding with. Stock clutching in this sled isn't too bad, just needing heavier weights to begin with. From that point you can add a higher engagement primary spring and make a helix/secondary spring change for quicker upshifts. These changes will affect how your machine performs on the trail.

so in your opinion you would add a few grams of weight and change the primary and secondary springs?I don't want anything crazy, like i mentioned it is my wifes sled and i probably ride it for about 2 hours a year and want her to still be able to enjoy it without it bucking her off.Just looking for some minor tweaking .Would jetting it and changing the gear give it a 1 or 2 sled advantage over stock?

Re: Willie,i have a question
Without knowing your sleds present calibration or your expectations, as there is no magic in these so called clutch kits, just a quick way to lighten ones pockets, and leave you with a sled that engages at over 5,000 rpm. You need to start somewhere by first knowing that your tach is accurate and traction has been addressed. Just by going up a couple grams in weight might give you the results your looking for if you are currently exceeding your sleds target rpm. Adding a Polaris almond/blue primary spring to up engagement... installing those new weights and swapping to something like an EPI yellow secondary spring would definetly add some upshift zing to the 500. Depending on rider weight and traction conditions it may require some additional fine tuning.
