Kalmbach Media, the content creator of such well-known and respected media brands as Astronomy, Discover, Trains, and Model Railroader among others, today announced the appointment of Ryan Thompson to the role of Editor of the American Snowmobiler brand, which includes the 6x magazine (published monthly from October to March), website and award-winning Web series, AmSnowTV.

Thompson, who is based in Utah, replaces long-time editor Mark Boncher, who departed in September 2018. “The timing worked out well,” notes Steve George, Vice President of Content for Kalmbach. “Working closely with Ryan from the start of the season gave us both a tremendous opportunity to understand the AmSnow brand and to optimize its editorial focus and operations. I’m looking forward to working with Ryan as we usher AmSnow into a bright future.”

Thompson began working with American Snowmobiler as a freelance photographer before being hired in 2016 as the brand’s Western Editor. For the past 10 years, Thompson has been the official photographer for the Rocky Mountain States Hillclimb Association (RMSHA); over the years, Thompson has also worked with all the major snowmobile manufacturers, many key figures and athletes in snowmobiling, and is widely known and respected within the sledding community.

Growing up in a snowmobile family, Thompson started riding when he was 4 years old on a 1979 Ski-Doo Citation 300. “I’ve spent most of my life getting to do the things I love: play in the snow and take pictures,” Thompson says. “I’m super excited to take on the editor’s mantle at American Snowmobiler and looking forward to providing great content to riders in all the regions and terrains we serve.”
