Ontario

Sixteen solid weeks of winter fun can be found in Ontario on the world's longest network of recreational trails.

The well-groomed, low-congestion 26,000 miles of interconnected trails simply scream for you to visit them! The seasoned and novice snowmobiler alike will enjoy this province whether taking the family out on a tour loop, renting and/or just self-exploring, every trip is exciting here.
The area near White River, Wawa, and Hornepayne offers a variety of riding conditions on 500+ miles of wide trails, along with a perfect small northern town atmosphere. Check out the Continental Motel and Restaurant in White River for Canadian hospitality!

Take a day-loop or exercise your sled's horses out on a frozen lake with your buddies. Check to make sure gas stops are available on your route though, because it can be a long walk if a station is closed for the season. Our staff has enjoyed this area and wrote about some great trail camaraderie and an all-around good time we had there. (AmSnow's Jan. 2008 issue, p.64.

You can lose yourself in the charm of the Cochrane/Timmins area (See AmSnow, Dec. 2005, p. 86), for a weekend or more as well. Make sure you stock up at rest spots here because they are few and far between. Timmins is the largest city in the area and it welcomes snowmobilers with ample accommodations, as does the smaller Cochran.

You will need a valid driver's license or Snow Vehicle Operator's Permit to legally drive a snowmobile in Ontario. In addition, if you use OFSC trails you are required to buy a snowmobile trail permit. Permits vary from 3- to 7-day permits. Also, in order to ride in Ontario you must have insurance for your snowmobile.
