2011 AmSnow's Super Sled Shootout
Published:
October 13, 2011 Martin, Mich. – With a cool mist seeming to hang in the air most of the day, the world record times set the last two years at AmSnow’s Super Sled Shootout were safe, but not the fastest speed.
Canadian Michael Swartz in his first ride on Dave Marshall Racing’s Hurricane Performance sled shattered the event and the track’s top speed mark in qualifying for the Outlaw class. Swartz posted a stout 186.57 with a 7.483-second run on US 131 Motorsports Park’s smooth ¼-mile asphalt drag strip. Yet it was last year’s record setter, Jeff Kerridge aboard the Kenneth Smith/Mott Motorsports sled, both with Yamaha motors, that ultimately won the Outlaw class.
AmSnow crowned four Super Sled Champs in our 22nd annual event, with all the races running Saturday.
Unfortunately, rain was the ultimate spoiler as Sunday’s action got washed out by some serious downpours.
In just the one day of racing more than 135 sleds ran at the Super Sled Shootout, presented by title sponsor Aeroquip Performance Products, a division of Eaton Corp. On Saturday crowds were up as the Michigan Snowmobile Association ran its All-Sports Show and Swap Meet in conjunction with the shootout. The big show started Friday afternoon.
