Fired TWICE! But two pink slips lead to rosy race future

November 1, 2011 Life takes many twists and turns, and if you are involved in any form of motorized racing, it may take those turns at a dizzying pace.
Such was the case in the spring of 1975. After having worked at Evinrude/Johnson as a Project Engineer and Manager of its Advanced Engineering Department for five years, upper management decided to terminate the snowmobile division, (together with the lawnmower, chainsaw and golf cart division) and get back to its core outboard engine business. There were many reasons for this, not least a deep recession much like we are in today, and a shrinking snowmobile market with too many manufacturers.
In any case, the message was … “You’re Fired!”
