Anyone wanna race Vintage heads up w/an Index?

Some Friends and I were wondering if there's anybody out there with older Race Sleds ( say 1990 and older) that might be interested in running heads up at some Ice Drag Events (particualrly Puslinch Lake) on an Index to keep it interesting this Winter!

If there are any of you out there with some fast old Iron in the Garage just sitting there collecting Dust, lets here your Opinions!

Cosdra has the Equipment to run Classes like this and I'm sure Kris and his great Crew would set it up if there's enough interest shown.

Let's here from all you Folks with older Indys, Blizzards, Twisters, SRXs et all that will still haul on the Ice.

Ciao 4 now, Rob.

COSDRA akready runs 5 Vintage classes that all the sleds you noted run in. Mind you the cut off date is early 80s.

I think the possibility exists to eliminate and stream line a lot of classes with the Index format.....However still keep some of the more populated classes with the addition of the index classes......I personally would like to see new and old(vintage) going heads up against a set time (et) for the class.....I  know that almost everyone that I have talked to about this doesn't really care what type of sled is lined up beside them as long as they have a legititmate chance at winning. Basically taking the "deep pockets syndrome" out of the equation.....Guess what we would have to know is who would be interested in participating.....Count me in for sure.....Ted Paterak.....See you at Puslinch Lake Ont. this Feb....

Re: Anyone wanna race Vintage heads up w/an Index?

Just one point of note, I did bring the ida up with Kris about 5 or 6 years ago prior to us setting up the existing classes. He was all for the idea then but wanted to wait and see what kind of interest was shown in Vintage racing on the whole.

One thing led to another and it was never set up.

I also agree that ET racing with a stagered start using a set quailifying time to determine the difference in green light coming on at te starting line would be a great system. However, it would take a great deal of co-ordination and work on race day and I thibnk that fact alone would kill it working over the long run.

What the classes are at now is run whatcha brung and hope you bring enough. Having said that, these classes are for AMATEUR only and many of us will fight tooth and nail to keep them as AMATEUR classes with no pro allowed.

If it goes to a pros allowed format, we will stop racing. There are plenty of other opporyunities for us to race and ride that we don't need to worry about it much at all if it does happen.

I am not aware though of too many clubs dedicated to nearly Vintage sleds or old late model sleds, 1985 to current, but there are many dedicated to Vintage and Antique sleds and those are early 80s and older, nothing newer. You may not understand or agree with the cut off date but is an accepted date no matter where you are in North America or the world for that matter when you speak about Vintage sleds. Just because you have an old non current sled that you used to race in the early 90s does not mean that you hav a Vintage sled to most collectors of Vintage slds that I know.

Just my $02.

Re: Anyone wanna race Vintage heads up w/an Index?

Index Racing is not Bracket Racing......No Staggered starts......It has worked quite well at Cayuga and is very entertaining for the spectators.....I figure that if it is successful at a established racetrack than we as a group could incorporate it into our race format.....Afterall imitation is the sincerist form of flattery Wink [;)]

As you state, there is 5 Vintage race classes...How is the turn out per class ? What is the average Et that the classes run ? If they run very close in Et's wouldn't it be better to run them in a combined group and have the additional bragging rights that your Elan was quicker than a CatZ ?

The above mentioned classes are just an example mind you......The same thing can happen on either side (Pro Stock Heavy Mod classes could be combined etc...) The intent of all this is to bring more racer's back and keep the spectator's interest (which is tough).....

As Rob stated, there are people with non current race equipment that would be tempted to bring out the equipment as long as there would be a legitimate chance at being competitive....So what would be a good way to get the average working guy/gal out besides the Index Race ?
