Purchased  three 8" Billet Idlers ( With Rubber) from Wahl  in Nov last year .  Waited about a month & still no wheels so I called them up. Dude on the phone tells me that there back ordered but will be Finished soon . So another week passes by and I call em up. Now the guy tells me that they came in but they sent them back out to have the "Rubber wheel" put on them. " No problem I still have a few weeks till Ice anyway".  So the wheels finally arrive and all is good.    Have maybe 10 passes on them the winter ends & I pull the skid out to clean it up etc. I notice that the "rubber" on one wheel is cracked & pulling off the Billet. So I email wahl letting them know that I will be sending the wheel to them to have the rubber reinstalled. Which "I will gladley pay for the re install".  They e-mail me back saying that they will not reinstall the Rubber. Listen,Wahl has  been helpful & fair through out the years  & I have been fair when they sent me Two sets of 8" idlers  by mistake & never billed me & I then  mailed them back regaurdless.

So  should I be pissed off that they won't send my wheel to the Rubber guy & now I have to go for a whole wheel.

Good question.  Pretty hard to get pissed at those guys.  They do everything they can for racers and are just great to work with.  They must have a real concern and are kind of between a rock and a hard place.  While the deal hasn't been that good you did own them for what ever amount of time and did get some use out of them.  What would they really like to see you do?  Maybe they deserve a break in some way.

Re: Make it right wahl
just a thought but you did run them correct? there is no warranty on idler wheels especially when run on studs. all it takes is ONE stud to be a little high inside the track and it will kill the rubber coating. as a matter of fact thats usually what happens. Im NOT defending wahl here but the title of your thread is a little unfair to them especially with all they do for racing and sledders in general.

Re: Make it right wahl

he had a whopping 10 passes on them.....he also offered to PAY for the repair....maybe he's looking for the boys at Wahl to suggest a different place to get re-rubbered seeing that they dont offer that anymore

I dont believe that Polarcat was starting a bash thread....Wahl Bros is one of the best when it comes down to sled support and info

you might want to try Tricked Toyz for your insert, they make all kinds of wheels...any size and with or without rubber....I also heard alot of good things about them

Re: Make it right wahl ?

Clarification: Wahl let me know that they send these wheels out to an outside source to have the rubber installed in Nov 07. I have always gotten great service from wahl so I just figured that they would send the wheel back to these guys to have it re rubbered.  The billet is in mint condition why toss a 100 dollar wheel.  I'll be honest to say that I was some what "hurt"  cause I depend on wahl to help me year after year.

   Mr. Kutter,

I personally feel that where all like one big family here on Amsnow. If there 's a issue with your family you should ( If you have Heart) get it straightened out & get on with it.  This wheel could have started to come apart for endless reasons,  who cares- not the point. Like I said I have no problem paying for the Re-rubber.  Maybe some don't like that I pointed this issue out but thats to bad ( I know where you live Sir Grumpy- still love ya babe ). I bet there is a Ton of my fellow racers that wish Wahl would provide this service & maybe I just created an new opportunity for everyone.  (Why chuck some nice billet). I hope Wahl  will use this  constructivley to help a fellow racer out  provide a service to re-rubber these wheels.   In conclusion Wahl has a great product & service & I will continue to by from them.

it really sounds like you want to be mad at wahl.

Did you ask Wahl who the supplier was, maybe you could go directly to them?

Re: Make it right wahl ?

Jimmy,  I have had excellent service from Whals always so I asked one of the employees about your rubber wheel issue when I ordered parts today. He explained that the molding can only be done when the wheel is being manufactured. He was unaware of this post but did remember an email about this & maybe had not explained it in detail on why it could not be done. He also said to send the wheel in so they could examine for possible warranty, he also said something about I beleive spacing or stud mounting can sometimes cause problems. Good luck & I beleive to be fair to Wahl's maybe change the title.

thanks

Rich Daly

Rich, I Appreciate your input on this. I thank you for the follow up. Will contact wahl again to have this taken care of .  Would rather not drag this through the mud any further.  So on a good note.

Thanks

Jimmy

ive been building plastic injection molds for 11 years, i dont see why the wheel cant be redone if you get all the rubber off beforehand. unless there is some kind of dovetail that is hard to clean out. JMO

I have been told this before by more than just Wahl, inserting a rubber "band" into a aluminum wheel is a one time shot. Don't know why, but I have been told by more than 1 shop.

If the molding can only be done when the wheel is being manufactured, then how come he was told the wheels had come in but had to be sent back out to have the rubber put on them? Can't have it both ways....

Re: Make it right wahl ?

I am sure another call to Wahl will get the answer . maybe they have to send in a minimum number of wheels , say 20 or even 50 or more , for the supplier to make it cost effective . But , I also was originally told , not by Wahl Brothers though , that the new asphalt ski wheels could be recoated when they wear down . ?
