Re: Reliability of Cats

. It is a shame that young as well as not so young people are brainwashed into thinking that it has to be Japanese to be good. We build excellent products here in North America not only sleds but cars and trucks as well. I realize that we partner in some cases with other countries to get a product to market as they also do, but at least the other three snowmobile  nameplates are designed here, most of the components are fabricated here and the money stays HERE.

As a side note Yammy does make a decent sled I ride with some but how can you be taken seriously when you say they never break. You may want to talk to a rider here that had his RX1 blow on the lake last weekend with us in Quebec never mind what its going to cost him to re construct that lightweight little engine. I have noww 5600 miles on mine without any major trouble, and cant wait to see what the rest of the Cat line up will be like.

Ride Fast and SAFE and take a look at what we build over here before you ship more work offshore.

Those trailer miles are impressive. How about taking the Viper off the trailer and getting it dirty!

Re: Reliability of Cats
It''s easy to make a sled like Yamaha that doesn't break. Here's how:

1. Build them strong by making them SUPER HEAVY.
2. Make then slow, so you put less stress on the chassis.
3. De-tune the engines for a longer life.
4. Charge $12,000 each so the Guy that can afford them, doesn't ride them hard.
5. Build very few snowmobiles every year to keep complaints and warranty claims down.
6. Re-introduce the Phazer. If a sled is that ugly, nobody will buy them, therefore they can't break.

Buy American.

Re: Reliability of Cats

You must be a newbie to snowmobiling or you have a very short memory. If I remember correctly Yamaha scrapped the 1982 production of SRX and renamed the pigs VMAX (just like the RXton which is now Apex)

The 1978 to 1982 SRX was a piece of ***. Clutches blew up and the motors  were done after 1,500 miles . The first year of the reborned SRX 700(1997) it was such a toilet that everyboby was changing the decals to make it look like a 600.

The 1995 VMAX four was another whoops. So on that note...I hope Cat never makes a sled like Yamaha!

There are Cat's and there are dogs...

I have great luck with Cat's. I had 2 that didn't get me home in the last 30 years. I think they are real reliable and thats why i buy them. All sleds are good if they work.

Re: Reliability of Cats

Currently have an Apex, so far so good.  Had 85 fz 750 street bike.  That made me fall in love with Genesis motors.  Use to hold it smashed to show friends how unbelievably  reliable the motor was to bounce at 11,500 rpm off the rev limiter.  I did *** like that all the time.  Whole shots.  I can't believe it still runs with over 40,000 miles on it.  That sould is what sold me when I hopped on the Apex.  However,  I put over 9000 miles on my 02 zr 800.  Motor is tough as a 2 stoke gets.  If I bought cross county in o2, I would probably still be on it.  I got tired of blowing shocks twice a year.  I have never had a sled where the front torque arm did not have exta welds on it. Apex is still in the test phase for me but I always here good stuff about them.  My bet is motor will be bullet proof and I will turn the chasis into swiss cheese, but I hope not.

Re: Reliability of Cats
3700 miles on a belt? Well I guess if you don't make the big horsepower and run as fast as the CAT'S do the belt will run longer!  See ya at Haydays! PS I hear your Mommy calling you again.
