Have kind of a stupid question. I am in the process of installing new pistons and rings in my race motor. The motor is a 800 Polaris XCR. I have a new set of Wiseco Pro-Lite Pistons and Rings and a new set of Polaris OEM Pistons and Rings. In your opinion what is the best piston to put in? I have always likes the OEM ring better then the Wiseco ring. The wiseco piston is stronger then oem I believe. Thanks Riley

we have always found that a coated wiseco held up better than a standard oem piston in many applications but it is still a subjective topic that could go either way,(coated wiseco is my answer)

You are correct about the Wiseco rings, they dont last as long as an oem Polaris. The Wiseco's are definitely lighter and stronger, especially in a high rpm application. Make sure you have the correct piston to wall clearance, they usually need more since they are a forged piston and expand more than an oem. Have run both with good success, but like the Wiseco's better

Finally got around to pulling my race motor apart. I had lost 20 lbs of compression at the end of the season. I figured rings would perk it back up. Right now I am running the Wiseco Pro-Lites. What I found is the top ring on each piston is stuck. The pistons look great, cylinders look great no evedence that it seized. What the? Did the ring lan collapse? Has anybody ever seen this before? The weard thing is it happened on all three pistons. Riley

sounds like you dont have enough relief on the exhaust ports you might have to chamfer them more... as for pistons i like wiseco just because they are lighter and its less stress on the crank...
because one stroke isnt enough and 4 strokes waste 2

I had this same problem. I sent the pistons to Wiseco they told me that the piston fell into the port. Funny thing Wiseco pistons are the only ones that fall into the port. I use OEM now no problem. I have been running this engine for over ten years. The only pistons to fail were Wiseco. Super Stock

the papers that come with wiseco pistons usually say the clearance
because one stroke isnt enough and 4 strokes waste 2

Ask your engine builder on the clearance he should know.....I use many different Wiseco's and on one motor the clearance for Wiseco is 4.5 thou, the engine builder wants 5.5thou.... Usually if you have a failure with a wiseco it is improper break-in
