Orange Crush
You never forget your first love
Published:
January 10, 2012 We all have a first crush, but for most of us it’s a passing thing we soon get over – but not for all of us.
For my wife Lori, her crush has lasted 30+ years with no signs of ending soon. Younger riders won’t recall the snowmobile explosion of the late 1960s and early ’70s.
The whole world was snow machine crazy and the industry grew every year. Folks were constantly buying new sleds. Everyone hit the powder from late November until the last flake melted.
Lori grew up in those heady days when every community had at least a couple dealerships. Her family caught the snowmobile bug and bought a 1970 Skiroule, a big single with a Hirth engine. It turned out to be a good trail breaker with a reliable engine. The bright pickle green sled was seldom shut off and racked up plenty of miles. It comfortably handled two and got Lori hooked on sledding for life. |
