AVALANCHE ALLIANCE AND ELEVATED RIDERS BUILD BEACON CHECK STATIONS

November 2020 Feature

Avalanche Alliance is proud to announce their latest safety initiative, helping provide beacon check stations to five major snowmobile parking areas in Island Park, Idaho. Funds for four check stations come from Avalanche Alliance fundraising activities and the 2020 KLIM Frozen Cow Tag Snowbike Ride. Elevated Riders have designed and built the stations, and provided funds for the remaining check station.

The new check stations will help riders verify their avalanche transceivers are turned on and transmitting a signal as they leave the parking area. Avalanche Alliance and Elevated Riders are working with Fremont County Parks & Recreation, the US Forest Service and local groomer operators on this project.

Avalanche Alliance has raised funds for projects like this since 2019 with snowmobile giveaways, and is currently offering a giveaway for 2020 as well. Funds go to various initiatives, such as providing beacon check stations and helping the American Institute for Avalanche Resources and Education (AIARE) train more safety instructors.

Fremont County Parks & Recreation groomer operators will place and maintain the beacon check stations throughout the 2020-2021 season. Avalanche Alliance is thankful for all fundraiser participants and all who’ve played a role in increasing safety for backcountry snowmobilers.
