On The Fly

Testing quality snowmobile gear

September 2019 Feature Steve Janes

This past winter the editors of SnoWest Magazine have done some extensive testing on Fly Racing snowmobile gear and we have been extremely impressed. Fly offers a full line of gear at very competitive prices. And we have found the value is well worth it.

From head to toe, we’ve tried and tested the Fly gear, not only as a complete package, but also mixed in with other riding gear. You never see a drop in quality or function, regardless of what you match it with. Fly works well in practically all riding situations and conditions.

The Carbon Mountain jacket ($309.95) is designed to withstand the harshest conditions. It features a Cordura outer shell for durability and Hydraguard Pro liner for ultimate weather protection. It has a detachable hood, goggle wipe and safety whistle attached by removable bungee, plus a full powder skirt.

The Carbon bibs ($289.95) feature the same shell and liner, plus two adjustable air vents and adjustable internal PE armor. It has adjustable suspenders with chest strap.

The Marker Boa Boots ($219.95) feature an innovative breathable and waterproof Hydraguard system that keeps your feet warm and dry. The BOA speed lace system makes them easy to put on and remove. A leather upper with protected toe and heel protects your foot as you dance around your running boards.

For head protection, we first went with the Ignitor Balaclava ($29.95) and topped it with the F2 Carbon MIPD Solid helmet ($299.99). The Ignitor Balaclava is designed for the cold days and features CoolMax to keep you warm and dry.

The F2 Carbon helmet offers a MIPS Brain Protection System—a helmet with an integrated, low-friction layer designed to reduce rotational motion transferred to the brain from angled impacts. The Carbon Matrix composite shell and dual-density EPS liner keep your head safe and secure.

The Carbon helmet features a removable and washable CoolMax comfort liner and cheek pads and offers great ventilation. It looks great on the snow, regardless of the suit you wear.

Along with the helmet, the Zone Pro Snow Goggles ($99.95) make for a perfect fit. They feature premium multi-layer foam with a wide 45mm silicone-lined adjustable strap and come with a premium polarized vented dual lens.

Finally, as an inner layer to the suit we went to the Windproof Technical Jersey ($74.95). Not only is it ideal for cooler weather high-intensity action sports, but it works great as an added layer on cold mornings.

The Technical Jersey offers maximum wind protection with a lightweight feel. It features windproof front and arm panels plus breathable back and armpit panels. Best of all, it’s very comfortable to wear.

Fly offers great one-stop shopping with popular styles and colors.
