Theo Poirier Joins Woodies Racing

News

Theo Poirier of Sayabec, Quebec, Canada, will join Woodies Racing for the 2019-20 snocross season.

The 17-year-old from eastern Canada is entering his 4th season racing snowmobiles.  Last season, Poirier won the SCMX Pro Lite Championship in Quebec. He also won the two CSRA Pro Lite races he rode in last season. Poirier will line up in the Pro Lite class.

Although Poirier has a brief history in snocross, he grew up riding snowmobiles. His racing career started on a dirt bike in Canada’s SXQC Arenacross where he finished 4th in the Pro class last summer.

Poirier has one experience on the ISOC tour. In 2018, he made the trip to Salamanca, NY, where he finished third in Sport Lite and Jr. 16-17 classes.

At 17, Poirier is wise beyond his years. “Of course, my goal is to be a professional snocross racer in the United States,” he said. “I am also studying mechanical engineering at Cégep Limoilou.”

Hard work and dedication define this young man. He works with a strength and conditioning coach to build his fitness level. Off-season workouts four days a week consist of swimming, cross-fit, strength training and cardio.

Growing up, Poirier rode every brand of snowmobile. His first two snocross seasons weren’t on an Arctic Cat. Last year he made the switch and loved it. He was confident and comfortable. “I like the way the Arctic Cat racers rode, so I made the switch to try it out,” he said. “The sled is awesome and contributed to my wins last year.”

Outside of racing, Poirier enjoys the outdoors. He isn’t a gamer or a big TV watcher. He likes mechanic work, skiing and being outside.

Poirier started his racing career with No. 28. He added the No. 7 last season in honor of a friend who passed away. Poirier will continue to honor his friend by riding with the No. 728 on his Arctic Cat this season.

Team owner Paul Woodie said of the addition, “Theo Poirier is a great young man. He has a ton of potential and will fit in our family team environment really well.”

Woodies Racing will be attending Haydays 2019. Snocross racing starts Thanksgiving weekend.
